Our Approach

No two children have exactly the same skills, needs or motivation. That’s why we create an individual treatment plan for each of our clients. We know that by identifying your child’s naturally occurring motivation, we can capture the best opportunities in your child’s life for an effectively yet positively enjoyable learning experience. Through the verbal behavior approach to applied behavior analysis across your child’s entire day, your child will learn, experience, and have relationships using functional social communication.

Our approach is to provide evidence-based intervention to address social, communication, behavior and educational support through programming that is individualized to the needs of each client. We offer a wide range of services, all of which are rooted in data driven, research supported, team approach to care.

Comprehensive and Focused Treatment Programs

We provide ABA therapy programs for individuals across the autism spectrum. We offer focused treatment programs for individuals who need ABA therapy to address a limited number of key functional skills as well as comprehensive treatment programs which can support skill development across multiple areas of social, communication, behavior, academic and life & safety skills. A detailed formal assessment is provided as part of the treatment planning process to develop an individualized ABA program that targets the specific needs of the client.

Home and Clinic Based Programming

Our technicians provide ABA therapy services in both home and clinic settings. As part of the program development, your child's Board Certified Behavior Analyst will determine which setting or settings are the most clinically appropriate to address the goals of the program.

Client Centered

Our staff implement therapy programs that blend engaging and challenging tasks in a way that meets the individual goals and interests of our clients. We believe in a team approach to care to provide the most supportive, informed treatment programming.

Nurturing and Fun

Sometimes therapy looks like a play session, sometimes it looks like a study session, and oftentimes it looks like a little of both! Our sessions pair rewarding activities and feedback with the hard work of developing emerging skills so that therapy sessions are overall a nurturing, rewarding experience.

Common Questions

What is ABA?

ABA focuses on the principles that explain how and why behaviors take place.Through decades of research, the field of behavior analysis has developed many techniques for increasing useful behaviors that facilitate growth across areas of everyday life such as academic, communication and social skills and reducing behaviors that may cause harm or interfere with learning.

How do I know if ABA is right for my child?

Research shows us that ABA therapy is one of the most effective treatment interventions for individuals with autism. There are many misconceptions about ABA therapy; ABA is meant to be intensive therapy packaged in a rewarding, nurturing program. There are varying approaches to ABA therapy which is why our Clinical Director meets with each new family to provide an introduction to our practice's approach to ABA to help your family find the right fit-- with us or with another autism intervention provider in our community.

What should I expect when I decide to get started?

New clients are evaluated using autism specific assessments that show their areas of strengths and help determine areas for further development. Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) and Psychologists work collaboratively to develop an individualized treatment program with goals that are unique to your child. Your child's therapy sessions are one-on-one sessions with a highly-trained behavior technician or BCBA who implements research-proven techniques to achieve growth toward his/her goals. We take extensive data at each session that you have access to through our parent portal. We will hold regular treatment team meetings with you to go over what the data shows us and to continually develop your child's program to adapt to his/her growing and changing needs.

Does my insurance cover ABA?

ABA therapy is covered by many insurance policies, however North Carolina does not currently require that all policies pay for ABA therapy. We provide a complimentary benefit verification for all new referrals who choose to provide insurance information. Behavior Consultation & Psychological Services accepts most major insurance carriers and is in-network with BCBSNC and many of its affiliates, Optum Behavioral Health (as part of United Healthcare), Trillium Health Resources, Cardinal Innovations, and Sandhills Center. We accept medicaid, private insurance and self-pay clients.
